Familiarity My Old Friend
Familiarity is like a warm hug that takes shape in many forms. Subconsciously, we seek it out; it is only human to want comfort. I find myself naturally gravitating towards situations and people that are familiar, even without intending to.
Familiar circumstances have a way of appearing unexpectedly, whether through a person re-entering your life or the repetition of an event. Life moves in a spiral. As humans, we have a responsibility to grow and learn from the past. If we do not, the same lessons will keep returning until we do.
Sonically, I have explored familiarity through sampling songs from my childhood up to the present day. Visually, I have drawn meaning through animation. The imagery carries personal symbolism and reflects themes from my life. Together, the sound and visuals form a single message: carry your past with you, let it guide you forward.
I believe everything happens for a reason. We must carry what our past experiences teach us and forge new experiences with reference to the old.
